Amikacin USP

Composition : Amikacin USP 100mg, 250mg & 500mg injection.

Indication : Amikacin Sulfate injection is indicated in the short-term treatment of serious infections due to susceptible strains of gram negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas species, Escherichia coli, species of indole-positive and indole-negative Proteus, providencia species, Klebsiella-Enterobacter-Serratia species and Acinetobacter species. Clinical Studies have shown Amikacin, sulfate Injection to be effective in bacterial septicemia; in serious infections of the respiratory tract, bones and joints, central nervous system and skin and soft tissue, intra-abdominal infections; and in burns and post operative infection. Clinical studies have shown Amikacin also to be effective in serious complicated and recurrent urinary tract infections due to these organisms.

Dosage and administration : Serious infection caused by susceptible organisms: Adults & Children's: 15mg/kg/day in two equally divided doses every 8 to 12 hours IM or IV (if IV, diluted in 100 or 200 ml infusion solution or normal saline given over 30 to 60 minutes) the dose may be increased maximum 500 mg every 8 hours. Neonates with normal renal function: Initially loading 10 mg/kg daily divided dosage by IM or IV (if given by IV an infusion period of 1 to 2 hours recommended) than 7.5 mg/kg every 18 to 24 hours. Uncomplicated UTI: Adults 250mg I.M or IV b.i.d. Clinical Tuburculosis: Adults, children's and infants 15mg/kg I.M daily five times weekly as an adjunct to other antitubercular durgs. Or as directed by the registered physician.

Use in pregnancy and lactation : Amikacin has been assigned to pregnancy category D by the FDA.

Packing :

Psudonil-100mg Injection : 1 x 5 ampoules in a blister pack.

Psudonil-250mg Injection : 1 x 5 ampoules in a blister pack.

Psudonil-500mg Injection : 1 x 5 ampoules in a blister pack.
